After working at a Manhattan clothing boutique for a little over a year, Torry Hansen requests permission to design the window displays. This is a big step for Torry since she associates fashion with her mother, who died in a tragic accident. The decorations cause quite a stir, even catching the attention of Evelyn Allbright, who decides to have her magazine, Trending, feature the shop, its designs, and the window display designer. Recognizing Torry’s talents, Evelyn becomes fascinated and decides to convince Torry to leave the boutique for bigger and better things. As Evelyn's interest in Torry transforms from professional to personal, so do her actions during her quest to keep Torry in her life.
Lost Treasures Jazzy Mitchell Books
After a long career as an author of fanfiction, Jazzy has crossed over to published literature with this gem. A romance with well-developed characters that one can relate to. I am most impressed by Torrie's development as she finds herself after personal tragedy and grows, fully realizing her own potential. This is a fun and thoughtful read that made my weekend. Lost Treasures Jazzy Mitchell Books Reviews
What a great book looking forward for her next one
This book started life as a fanfic, and it reads that way, it's been polished and added to, but needed more work in my opinion. Torry is a little too perfect, she's 25, not trained in art or fashion, and yet everything she tries her hand at, she excels at. Window dressing, painting, possible assistant photographer, fashion knowledge. One of these would have been enough, all of them together were a bit much.
She and Evelyn also don't spend much time together for the first quarter or so of the book, and yet once they do, it's just wham, instant falling in love, despite not really knowing much about each other outside of the work sphere. There's also not much drama in the story. All of their families and friends also fall in line with this relationship, even though it's far from conventional, and would be sure to raise some opposition.
The author also uses brief flashbacks to portray events that could have just as easily have happened in chronological order, which frankly would have been less annoying.
This is a fairly quick read with an interesting enough premise. It's a solid debut novel, and I look forward to more from this author.
Such a beautiful love story. Not at all sappy, but incredibly empowering!! So perfect!! It is so nice to see age differences depicted so beautifully and feel the characters all grow and change together.
I devoured the book in a weekend and had a smile the whole time. I liked exploring the idea of making a connection that just tugs on your heart even if there wasn't much said or time spent. I think that this happens so rarely in life and people often miss it, so stories about how that could develop if a person were open to it are fascinating. I hope that we will see more from Jazzy Mitchell in the coming years.
I loved this book. The characters were great and I enjoyed getting to know them. This is the first time I have read any of Ms.Mitchell's work and look forward to reading more by her.
I've read this author's stories online for years and she's never disappointed me. This novel has all of the charm, warmth and keen intelligence I've come to expect from her. I've been thinking about what I could say about how this romance develops without spoiling it. Here goes finding oneself completely captivated by another person's aesthetic sensibility without ever having met is a novel and very Romantic (yes, Romantic with a capital R) approach and one I truly enjoyed. Read it and you'll see what I mean.
This was a charming book for first time writer. The romance and love was well paced with just the amount of fantasy to forget our real lives.
It was an easy read.
The only drawbacks are the lack of angst (the story is a little too sweet) and if you do not worship fashion, the clothing descriptions can be tedious.
Although it says 3 stars my actual review would be 3.5
